When I see ads for products for “women over 50,” I think of a bit by Ellen Degeneres. Apparently, at one time Bic made a pen for women, in the colors of pink and purple. Ellen couldn’t resist commenting. Do women need their own pens? Like, really?  You can watch it here.

So how about this:

When you’re invisible and ugly because you’re old, try our Magic Eyeshadow. Notice how you don’t have the same kind of eyes anymore. Your hand shakes when you apply the eye shadow. You are reminded…this is eye shadow for OLD people. You can apply it easily from your wheelchair.

Just think…all this time we’re using regular eye shadow products for women. There must be fifty options to choose from. Just go to the department store make-up counter…or the new make-up stores like Sephora.

Have you asked your doctor about using make-up after 50? Maybe you can’t use any at all. Your skin and your eyes start to deteriorate. Good luck if your eye doctor is male. My doctor wasn’t even sure what eye shadow was.

Maybe the big cosmetic companies saw a gap in the market. They already target women of all ages. I’ve never seen make-up for younger women or teens…although I once saw a teenager take 20 minutes to put on her make-up. Who’s got this kind of time or motivation after you grow up?

Women over 50 have money. They’re past the”saving for a house” stage. They want to look good. Maybe that first shudder of “we’re getting older” happens around this time.

Better be ready. This Talk could be worse than withholding the car keys. Be prepared with a bucket of water nearby. Tell your mom, “You need this new eye shadow.”

Yeah, somehow grandma got by with all-ages eye shadow. But times are different. Older women want their own cosmetics…just like they all need hearing aids and bifocals. You can go shopping today.
